Jewish and Israel News from New York - The Jewish Week

From the article:

“At several upcoming social events — a coffeehouse, the Junior Ball — upper-school students would not be permitted to bring non-Jewish dates, it was announced.”

What strikes me as funny is not necessarily that they allow a mixed ball, but that they didn’t think it would be controversial. That they expected that it would make sense to the kids.

“Yes, you can not follow the laws of shabbat, or kashrut, or taharat hamishpacha. You don’t have to give maaser or watch out for shatnez. You can watch tv on yom kippur and eat bread on pesach. But you BETTER NOT BRING A GOY INTO THIS GYM!!!”

Because that makes sense…
