A little fun juxtoposition for ya. From Ha’aretz. Two articles.

“Palestinian sources said Tuesday that the current discussions about a release of Marwan Barghouti, on trial in the Tel Aviv District Court for orchestrating terror attacks against Israelis…. In a letter to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, [A.G. Elyakim] Rubinstein wrote that Barghouti “is an architect of terror on the highest level … according to Palestinian sources, the idea of releasing Barghouti was proposed three weeks ago by U.S. State Department official David Satterfield, as a goodwill gesture for building confidence between the sides….”

And later that day…

“President Moshe Katsav said in response [to the parole board which is to meet in the coming days to discuss the early release of more than 200 convicts and terrorists who have served at least seven years of
their life sentence] that he has no intention of commuting the sentence of Yigal Amir, who assassinated Rabin in November 1995, irrespective of any decision by the Prison Service’s Parole Board.”

So to summarize: A terrorist who is responsible for the death of more than a handful of Jews, might deserve to be set free. But the extremist assasin who killed the prime minister whose policies were at least partially responsible for allowing that terrorist to be succesful is not. Ok. Just as long as we have our priorities straight.

I personally think that they both should rot in prison, but obviously I am uninformed and sorely naive.
